California Education Policy Fund Announces Fourth Grantee Cohort, Totaling nearly $3 Million, to Boost Education Reform Statewide
SAN FRANCISCO and NEW YORK (PRWEB) August 13, 2014 -- Continuing its commitment to supporting education reform at the local and state levels, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA) today announces the fourth year of grants from the California Education Policy Fund (CEPF) to foster Deeper Learning objectives across the California public education system. Deeper Learning is the set of rich academic knowledge and higher-order skills that students need to succeed in 21st-century work and civic life. The grantees are working to improve student success in all aspects of their lives from improving education policies to effective local implementation of recent policy reforms. The $2.65 million in grants will provide support to 10 organizations at the forefront of California education policy advancement.
Created in 2011, and sustained by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, CEPF promotes Deeper Learning through education policy reform and reform implementation in California schools. Deeper Learning includes mastery of key academic concepts along with critical thinking and complex problem solving, effective communication skills, teamwork and collaboration, learning how to learn, and the development of academic mindsets. As California has taken strides toward prioritizing critical skills and knowledge by adopting the new Common Core standards and Smarter Balanced assessments, CEPF supports grantees transforming these goals into actionable change. To date, CEPF has awarded over $13 million to 25 nonprofit organizations that advocate for and advance critical education reform policies in California.

CEPF invests in high-performing, action-oriented advocacy and organizing groups, as well as groups that focus on policy implementation, research, policy analysis, and information sharing.
CEPF grantees are chosen based on their demonstrated capacity in advocacy, and communications; as well as expertise in policy implementation, including regulatory rule-making, strategic planning for school sites and districts, coalition building, and translating state policy into operational guidelines for local entities. This year, CEPF is providing both supplemental funding to past grantees and supporting new grantee organizations. This cycle’s grant recipients are:
