In June 2014, the Obama administration proposed a plan in conjunction with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to slash carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants throughout the United States by 30% (from 2005 levels) by 2030. Preferred Utilities Manufacturing Corporation released a statement on how power plants can begin reducing their emission levels in preparation, should the plan be enacted.
According to an article released by Reuters titled “U.S. unveils sweeping plan to slash power plant pollution” by Valerie Volcovici and Jeff Mason (June 2, 2014), the country currently has about 1,000 operating power plants, which account for nearly 40 percent of the carbon emissions within the U.S.
“While still in its infancy, if this plan does become set in stone many plants across the country will have to begin taking steps to comply with the new regulations,” explained Dan Wallace of Preferred Utilities. “The ruling is not slated to take effect for at least two years, but as a power plant company I would not put this off for two years. Preparations should be made now.”

“A correctional study and tuning of a company’s system can result in decreased emissions, higher efficiency, and lower fuel costs,” Wallace said. Several customers with large boiler room plants—including universities—have already taken advantage of Preferred’s combustion consultation services.
