Wharton to Kick Off 2014 CEO Connection Mid-Market Convention with Corporate Board Governance Class Oct. 19 on University of Pennsylvania Campus

Program Designed for Executives Seeking to Serve on Boards or Improve their Current Board’s Performance

The Wharton School’s Aresty Institute of Executive Education is offering a new one-day program for mid-market executives looking to bring greater value to their board of directors. The program, to be held Oct 19, 2014 on the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia, will launch the CEO Connection Mid-Market Convention that will bring together senior leaders of organizations that generate between $100 million and $3 billion in annual revenues.

Based on the book, "Boards That Lead: When to Take Charge, When to Partner, and When to Stay Out of the Way," the Wharton Executive Education program provides the latest thinking from knowledgeable boardroom veterans on how directors can make a leadership difference.

“This program is for any mid-market executive who is on a board, hoping to get on a board or is looking to bring people onto his or her board,” says Kenneth Beck, Chief Executive Officer of CEO Connection. “For any CEO, getting more value from your board is a huge opportunity. There’s no other professional program out there that looks at this issue from the mid-market perspective. Participating in this program will enable executives to identify gaps in their current board make-up and transform their board of directors into a high-performing team.”

Attendees will hear the latest insights on board governance from Wharton Professor Michael Useem and Mark Nadler, an advisor to corporate boards. Useem is a coauthor of the book "Boards That Lead" and Director of Wharton’s Center for Leadership and Change Management. Nadler is a principal and co-founder of Nadler Advisory Services, a New York City firm that consults with boards of directors, CEOs, and executive teams on issues of leadership, governance, and team effectiveness.

Participants of the Wharton Executive Education program will come away with specific insight about the new role of directors and how to design effective boards. They will also develop a plan on how to actively define, pursue, and get on a board and how to add value once they are there

The Wharton program kicks off a convention designed to maximize value for mid-market CEOs. Sessions will cover a range of critical mid-market issues and challenges. Breakout sessions will include panels on how the mid-market already is tackling critical areas such as education, healthcare, social impact, emerging markets and job creation. CEOs in attendance will also have the opportunity to network with peers and play a part in promoting the interests of the mid-market.
