Manzella Family Healthcare to Adopt IHW HABIT™ Program
Palmerton, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) August 14, 2014 -- Manzella Family Healthcare will be the first medical practice in the state of Pennsylvania to pick up HABIT for all of its patients, starting on August 15th. IHW HABIT™ is a new doctor-patient tool for behavior modification. This solution from Indaba Health and Wellness, LLC (IHW) combines assessments, personalized reports, sensor integration technology, and messaging to improve people’s behavior.
This self-directed web-based program is the first of its kind to address tenets of the Annual Wellness Visit and the Personalized Preventive Plan Service as outlined in the Affordable Care Act with the express goal of giving the general public the education they need to change their habits.
The goal is to contain or roll back the risks and costs associated with chronic diseases. Most risk factors linked to chronic disease are linked to a person’s habits. If patients don’t learn to change their habits, the costs associated with providing care will continue to escalate.
Why HABIT?
HABIT features personalized reports outlining patients’ challenges and explores various personalized methods for each patient to stay healthy. “The IHW HABIT™ Program is very user-friendly and gives our patients the ability to actively control their own wellness and treatment plans. It also helps us remain compliant with our insurance providers,” said Edward D. Manzella, MD, PC, on their decision.
Manzella Family Healthcare explored many options before selecting The IHW HABIT™ Program, but other tools were too complicated for their patients and did not satisfy the Annual Wellness Visit requirements for their Medicare patients. Dr. Manzella commented that HABIT “will help [them] take better care of [their] patients. More importantly, it will help patients to take better care of themselves.”
What does this mean for the doctors and patients at Manzella Family Healthcare?
When patients complete their assessments, Manzella will gain insight into each patient’s behavior pattern, helping them to best communicate with each individual patient. This insight results in improved patient satisfaction, a better understanding of their health and the power to make changes.
Understanding patients’ values, motivations, wants, fears and goals, helps providers motivate patients to make healthier choices. Dr. Manzella looks forward to the long-term impact of using the program and hopes that HABIT will help reduce the morbidity of chronically ill patients.
The messaging system within the IHW HABIT™ program keeps patients engaged, sending them reminder emails, motivational messages, warning messages and other messages highlighting their progress.
Brian Butler, CEO of IHW, says “This is a step in the right direction for patient centric healthcare. This partnership will help members take proactive responsibility for their health by teaching them how to change their behaviors and live healthier lives.”
Manzella Family Healthcare has two convenient locations: Palmerton and Jim Thorpe, PA, and also make house calls to patients throughout Carbon, Northampton, Lehigh, and Schuylkill counties. Their practice is run by two brothers: Edward D. Manzella, M.D., P.C. and Victor A. Manzella, M.D. Learn more about their practice at http://www.ManzellaHealth.com.
