In celebration of Labor Day, Sheet Music Plus and Hal Leonard are offering a contest to find the best new composition or arrangement in three categories.
Composing really is a labor of love, and we know how hard it is to get the fruits of that labor out there and appreciated. That’s why I think this contest represents a special opportunity for composers and arrangers.
Emeryville, CA (PRWEB) August 19, 2014
Sheet Music Plus, the largest retailer of digital and print sheet music, is teaming up with Hal Leonard, the largest sheet music publisher, to announce a "Labor of Love" sheet music publishing contest. The month-long contest will begin Monday, September 1, and end Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Entries in three categories will be accepted: Educational Piano Work, Jazz Combo or Ensemble Work and Original Composition. An overall winner and one winner in each category will be announced by October 31, 2014. Winners will receive cash prizes and their compositions or arrangements will be promoted by Sheet Music Plus.
“Hal Leonard is proud to participate in Sheet Music Plus’s Labor of Love Publishing Contest,” said David Jahnke, Vice President of National Sales at Hal Leonard. “This provides a great incentive for composers new to digital publishing to jump in and see just how simple and intuitive the interface is. Our editors are looking forward to seeing what fantastic talent is out there!”
The Top Prize of $500 will be awarded to the Best Overall title received across the three categories. Three additional prizes of $300 per category will be awarded in Educational Piano Work, Jazz Combo or Ensemble Work, and Original Composition. An additional prize of $150 for the best new self-publisher will be awarded to a new user of Digital Print Publishing, a service of Sheet Music Plus that offers the ability to publish sheet music for sale at SheetMusicPlus.com. Multiple entries in all three prize categories are encouraged.
Entries to the Labor of Love Sheet Music Contest will be accepted at Sheet Music Plus beginning at midnight on September 1, 2014. To be considered, the title of an entry must be clearly noted and the entry must be playable on one or more musical instruments at a specified difficulty level. Original compositions may be in any style or instrumentation and should demonstrate creativity and mastery of musical elements. Arrangements may only reference music not currently under copyright. Entries will be judged by panelists from Sheet Music Plus and editors at Hal Leonard.
To enter, a participant must have a Digital Print Publishing account at Sheet Music Plus, or may sign up for a free account. Along with the chance to win cash prizes in the Labor of Love sheet music contest, Digital Print Publishing participants will earn royalties of 45% of the list price of their sheet music. Since first launching Digital Print Publishing in 2013, composers have uploaded over 15,000 titles for sale at Sheet Music Plus. “We have continually been impressed by the variety and quality of titles that have been offered,” states CEO Jenny Silva. “Our customer base has demonstrated strong demand for the self-published titles.”
The Digital Print Publishing program is easy to use. Compositions or arrangements may be uploaded via PDF, and all relevant categories must be selected during the upload process. The program allows users to include audio samples, enter important marketing information, and set their price.
“We are so excited to be partnering with Hal Leonard to produce our Labor of Love Contest,” said Charles Moehnke, Senior Channel Marketing Manager at Sheet Music Plus. “Composing really is a labor of love, and we know how hard it is to get the fruits of that labor out there and appreciated. That’s why I think this contest represents a special opportunity for composers and arrangers. They can have their music judged by professional editors, seen by our customers and they might even win some cash.”
