Prepare for National Fire Prevention Week – Importance of a Safe Place
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) August 15, 2014 -- In preparation for National Fire Prevention Week October 11-15, the manufacturer of Crossfire Alarms out of the Dallas metroplex is working to raise awareness of the benefits of fire safety and preparedness. A critical area of emphasis is the importance of designating a safe place for your family in the event of a fire.
With fire safety, proper preparedness means everything. Crossfire Alarms, along with fire safety organizations, stresses the importance of planning what to do in the event of a fire. Fire escape planning begins with finding safe ways to escape from each room of the house, and which routes to take if the initial route is not safe. Once your family knows how to get out of the home safely, the next vital step is to designate a place outside the home for your family to meet once out of the house.
Your family’s safe place should be somewhere outside the house that is a safe distance from potential flames. This could be a mailbox, neighbor’s house, or other “landmark” that each member of your family is familiar with and will know to go to if a fire happens in the home. Have your family practice going to the safe place from all possible exits in your home, so they know exactly what to do when it matters most.
A designated safe place will let you know who has made it safely out of the home. This will serve a purpose to keep your family and the first responders safe. It is important for fire rescue to know if anyone is still in the home so they know how many people, if any, are still in the home in danger. If the whole family knows to meet at the same place, it will eliminate confusion and make sure no one goes into the home that does not need to.
