MacLennan demonstrates the Montuno as follows; starting on a Am7 (A minor seven) played on beats one and two and then on the & of three and then on the & of four Jon switches to a D9, which is a standard Jazz chord progression of two five, and play on the one and the & of two and the & of three and then simply repeat the whole sequence. Carlos Santana is a Mexican American singer songwriter and guitarist from Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco, Mexico. Carlos moved to San Francisco in 1965 and formed the band Santana. Santana has had wide commercial success over the years starting with a performance at Woodstock. Carlos was named number 20 on Rolling Stones list of top 100 guitarists of all time and has been awarded 10 Grammy Awards.
Tito Puente was an American Salsa and Latin-Jazz musician and composer from New York New York. Over the course of his career he performed on over 70 albums until his death in 2000.

Los Angeles based guitarist Jon MacLennan began his career at the age of 16 and is one of the busiest upcoming session guitarist, artist, composer, producer, and professional educator in LA. Jon has done session work for Julian Lennon, Steven Tyler, and British pop star Jamie Cullum. He has appeared on Disney channels “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and on the sound track to the movie “Marley and Me 2 – The Puppy Years”. MacLennan earned a bachelor’s in ethnomusicology and jazz guitar studies from University of California, Los Angeles, and has been mentored by Carl Verheyen, Wolf Marshall, Kenny Burrell, Anthony Wilson, Tamir Hendelmen, Jimmy Wyble and Ron Anthony which has made him a highly sought after guitar instructor today.
