ClickThrough Marketing Launches Responsive Mobile Website Tester

Web developers and marketers can now reliably test mobile websites without shelling out for the privilege, thanks to Responsive Site Checker, a new tool from ClickThrough Marketing.

Responsive Site Checker is a free web app that lets users test responsive design and mobile websites without leaving their desktop browser.

Most freely-available tools simply scale down websites to fit the screen sizes of popular mobile devices like iPhones and iPads. This means users get a good approximation of what responsive websites will look like, but can't easily test a mobile-native version hosted on a different domain.

Responsive Site Checker solves this problem by automatically checking for a mobile domain and displaying the appropriate version, just as a real device would.

Alan Rowe, head of web development at ClickThrough Marketing, said Responsive Site Checker may be the first tool to offer such functionality without subscription.

He commented: “Big-name tools like BrowserStack provide complete mobile browser emulation, but come with prohibitive fees attached. It's nearly $400 per month for an enterprise subscription to BrowserStack.

“Responsive Site Checker mimics the behaviour of a genuine device by detecting and displaying mobile versions of websites. We've done our research, and to the best of our knowledge it's the only free tool that does this.

“We initially created Responsive Site Checker to use in-house for our own projects, but we soon realised it could have many uses beyond web development – for example, by allowing digital marketers to quickly audit the mobile functionality of a client or prospect's site.”
