ProRehab Assisting Official Training Program for YMCA Half Marathon
Evansville, Indiana (PRWEB) August 14, 2014 -- ProRehab and Team 13, the official training program for the 11th annual YMCA Evansville Half Marathon, are helping both experienced and novice athletes prepare for the Saturday, October 4, 2014 race.
Every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, beginning July 8th, for the 13 weeks leading up to the October 4th race, members of Team 13 meet to train and prepare for the half marathon, with Saturdays reserved for longer runs. Runs are held at various locations throughout the city, often involving parts of the route that are used for the official race.
Several of ProRehab’s therapists participate in the training sessions, and also provide bike support, first aid, and hydration to participants during the longer runs. Additionally, ProRehab staff members run formal seminars on injury prevention, health and safety while training for the race, and help check team members for injury. During the 5k, 10k and 15k races leading up to the half marathon, ProRehab staff provides first aid and work at water stations.
“I have participated in the Evansville Half Marathon for the last five years, in all capacities from runner to first responder,” said Mindy Riley, PT, DPT, MTC, CSCS, ProRehab physical therapist, and marathoner. “It’s been an extremely fulfilling experience to watch participants meet personal goals, and is especially rewarding to have a hand in helping them achieve their goals. In addition to First Aid assistance, ProRehab conducts educational seminars on training, proper hydration, nutrition, and mobility. We look forward to providing these services to the community and keeping participants healthy and crossing the finish line for years to come!”
