Central Basin Recognized for Outstanding Financial Reporting
Commerce, CA (PRWEB) August 18, 2014 -- The Central Basin Municipal Water District has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its 2013 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). This is the 9th consecutive year the District is recognized for achieving the highest standard in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
“We are dedicated to providing our stakeholders with financial reporting that is transparent and comprehensive,” said Central Basin Board President Phillip Hawkins. “Receiving this prestigious award for nine years in a row demonstrates our commitment to maintaining the public trust.”
The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting in 1945 to encourage state and local governments to exceed the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles during the preparation of financial reporting. Governmental agencies, like Central Basin, who demonstrate “spirit of full disclosure” in communicating the agency’s financial story are recognized with the prestigious award.
The Government Finance Officers Association represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada and serves nearly 18,000 finance officials.
Central Basin is a public agency that wholesales imported water to cities, mutual water companies, investor-owned utilities and private companies in southeast Los Angeles County, serving a population of more than 2 million. In addition, Central Basin provides the region with recycled water for municipal, commercial and industrial uses.
