The Homeownership Preservation Foundation (HPF), the leading independent national non-profit dedicated to guiding consumers onto the path of sustainable homeownership and improving their overall financial health, announced today that its Board of Directors has unanimously chosen David Berenbaum to serve as the organization's next Chief Executive Officer, effective September 2nd.

“After a comprehensive national search process, the board is pleased to have found the best individual to assume leadership of this world-class organization,” said Sanjeev Handa, Chairman of the HPF Board of Directors. “David is an experienced and innovative leader who will work closely with our partners and guide HPF as it continues to serve its mission by proactively helping consumers before they buy, after they buy, and if they encounter trouble.”

Mr. Berenbaum comes to HPF with more than 28 years of leadership and management experience in the non-profit sector. He is nationally recognized as a trusted voice for consumers and a champion for a vibrant mortgage marketplace that celebrates sustainable homeownership, responsible lending, affordable housing and financial education. Over the past twelve years, Mr. Berenbaum has served as Chief Program Officer and in other executive roles at the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), and he was responsible for the organization’s housing counseling, public policy, fair housing, small business, research, training, compliance and external affairs initiatives. Mr. Berenbaum has also held executive leadership positions with the Equal Rights Center, the Fair Housing Council of Greater Washington, and Long Island Housing Services.

“I am excited for the opportunity to join a team of dedicated people whose top priority is serving consumers and look forward to working with HPF’s Board of Directors and staff to ensure a smooth transition,” said David Berenbaum. “The Great Recession has negatively impacted generations of Americans--excessive student loan debt, reduction in wages, impaired credit, aging in place, and upside down mortgages--are issues of serious concern for many Americans. HPF will continue to play a critical role as an independent resource for consumers who are already in the process of acquiring a home or dealing with the challenges of current homeownership through its comprehensive, extended financial coaching platform.”
