Oregon Releases Medical Marijuana and Dispensary Inspection Reports
Portland, OR (PRWEB) August 18, 2014 -- According to the Oregonian, Oregon Health Authorities released their first round of medical marijuana and dispensary inspection reports to the public this past Thursday. In the report, inspectors checked a wide range of dispensary procedures, including but not limited to, product labeling, child resistant packaging, patient record keeping, lab testing of marijuana, and security. Since March, the state has licensed 158 medical marijuana businesses; however, during this round of inspections, two establishments had their licenses revoked due to severe violations.
Karynn Fish, a spokeswoman for Oregon’s medical marijuana dispensary program, told the Oregonian that one of the dispensaries that had been ceased due to violations remains closed, while the license for the other dispensary found with flagrant errors has been reinstated. Dispensary operators that were sited with minor deficiencies were directed by officials to submit a “plan or correction” to the state within 10 days, in order to seek inspection clearance. According to the report by the Oregonian, failure to correct problems found during inspection could result in dispensary fines of up to $500 a day or license revocation, as in the case with the two dispensaries that were temporarily shut down. Currently, there are 3 full-time inspectors who are responsible for making surprise visits to dispensaries, and will continue the inspection process as medical marijuana in the state takes to new heights.
