New FDA-Approved Treatment Zaps Away Acne Scars
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 19, 2014 -- Acne doesn’t just affect adolescents and then passes after puberty –its effects can last a lifetime. Over 60 million people experience acne, making it the most common skin condition in America. For the 33% of extreme cases, scarring has become a permanent reminder of their experience with acne. Finally, sufferers of acne scarring have an effective treatment option thanks to the newly FDA-approved PicoSure™ by Cynosure laser. Previously used as the most advanced treatment for tattoo removal, PicoSure’s PressureWave™ technology has been extremely effective in increasing skin elasticity in scar tissue and thus reducing the appearance of acne scars.
To date, effective treatment options have been scarce and have included lengthy, costly treatments with minimal results. Dr. Bruce Katz, founder of the JUVA Skin & Laser Center in New York, was one of the first physicians in the country to work with the PicoSure laser and has been at the forefront of its progress.
“PicoSure's PressureWave technology gently delivers ultra-short pulses of energy in trillionths of a second resulting in increased density and length of elastin fibers and increased collagen deposition,” says Dr. Katz. “Clinical studies showed a dramatic improvement in the appearance of acne scars in as little as three treatments.”
PicoSure received 97% physician satisfaction rate at the one month follow up appointment and increased to 100% at the three month follow up. PicoSure received 76% patient satisfaction rate at the one month follow up appointment and increased to 86% patient satisfaction rate at the three month follow up.1 These results are indicators that skin elasticity is restored to normal levels thus reducing the appearance of the acne scar.
The number of treatments required depends on the depth of density of scars and size of the treatment area.
