Dr Tariq Drabu was speaking about an article recently published on a leading dentistry website. The article, published on 15 August 2014, can be read here.
Dr Tariq Drabu said “The Ebola virus is currently ravaging its way through West Africa with hundreds of cases being reported. This disease rears its ugly head every few years and it’s times like this where dental professionals need to be aware and ensure they are following the necessary steps to ensure their safety and the safety of their patients.”
Dr Tariq Drabu went on to say “Ebola spreads through close contact, saliva and blood, this puts dental professionals at a very high risk. Symptoms of this disease include a temperature, weakness, headaches, muscle pain, vomiting and so much more. It also has a very high mortality rate. While thankfully there have not been any UK cases reported and no reports within dental settings, it is still important that as dental professionals we ensure we are aware of the potential dangers at all times.”
Dr Tariq Drabu closed in saying “We already have such high standards in place to protect dental professionals and patients. At Langley Dental Practice we ensure that we take high measures of cleanliness and infection control at all times. It is for the dental professionals to be aware of the dangers of Ebola and take steps to ensure safety at all times to reduce the risk of contracting this devastating disease.”
