Hatch River Expeditions Teams Up with Grand Canyon Youth to Provide Trip of a Lifetime for Aspiring Art Students
Flagstaff, Arizona (PRWEB) August 26, 2014 -- The Grand Canyon has inspired countless artists. Writers, painters, and photographers flock to the area each year in search of unleashing their inner muse. This past July, a group of aspiring area art students were able to spend eight days on one of Grand Canyon Youth’s Grand Canyon river tours. Eager students experienced the breathtaking outdoor environment and sharpened their artistic expression as participants in the “Grand Inspiration” workshop.
Led by Steve Hatch, owner of Hatch River Expeditions, a group of 24 students, staff, and local artists, launched out from Lees Ferry on their way to Diamond Creek.
The eight-day Grand Inspiration workshop is designed to help facilitate the creative process by immersing students in the natural beauty of the Grand Canyon and Colorado River. To qualify for the Colorado River rafting trip, students were required to submit a piece of writing or art. Art experience was not required, but students had to demonstrate an appreciation and interest in artistic expression.
Students were also able to spend time with Grand Canyon experts, including professional photographers and local artists. In addition to enjoying the awe-inspiring views, students recorded their thoughts and created original art pieces through mediums such as photography, short stories, and drawings. They then shared their art with visitors of the South Rim at the conclusion of the trip.
In addition to strengthening their artistic skill sets, participants, all aged between 15-19, were able to engage in activities fostering environmental awareness, teamwork, and community.
“Grand Canyon Youth is a great program that we want to be a part of in any way we can,” said Steve Hatch, owner of Hatch River Expeditions. “An amazing group of kids always come out, and the staff and guides all just have a great time with these kids.”
