GlobeIn, the online marketplace that connects shoppers to artisans and handmade goods from around the world, today announces the launch of its mobile iOS iPhone and iPad shopping application and its new subscription service with Deepak Chopra. The GlobeIn mobile app is the first consumer app for exploring and purchasing artisan goods from remote regions, bringing fairtrade unique goods and stories of faraway people and cultures to our iPhones and iPads.
GlobeIn is also announcing today an additional $1 million in investment, bringing its total Series A funding to $2.1 million.
“Globein is a business with purpose - creating wealth by improving the life of those who are poor, but have unique artistic talents to offer to the world. I'm proud to be part of their great venture,” said Deepak Chopra.
Since launching last year, GlobeIn has successfully built out the world’s first marketplace that enables artisans from all over the world, and especially in remote and under-developed regions, to join the online community and share and sell their creations with the world. Today, thousands of products created by hundreds of artists from over 40 countries are part of the GlobeIn marketplace.
Now, the GlobeIn mobile app takes you to every street market in the world right from any mobile device. In addition to accessing the world’s most diverse collection of crafts directly from artisans in the remote regions, consumers can thumb through thousands of artisan stories, ethnic craft descriptions and beautiful photos. It’s the only app that lets you buy stuff directly from artisans in remote regions and learn their remarkable stories.
Starting today, shoppers can sign up to “Explore the World with Deepak Chopra,” a monthly subscription service featuring meditation series from the Chopra Center, specially-curated handmade artisan products, and stories of the creators. The service is available exclusively through the GlobeIn iPhone App or http://www.globein.com/box for $29.99. Proceeds from the $29.99/month box go to supporting artisan activities around the world.
“This is a wonderful way to help those in the remote regions help themselves and own unique, hand-made goods that you’ll never find on American shelves,” said Vlad Ermakov, founder and CEO of GlobeIn.
