Grandparents and Grandkids Set to Celebrate Grandparents Day at The Manse on Marsh
San Luis Obispo, CA (PRWEB) August 26, 2014 -- The residents and at The Manse on Marsh in San Luis Obispo, CA are preparing for a full month of activities in September, including a very special story time in honor of Grandparents Day on Sept. 7. Leading the residents and their guests in a full hour of stories and entertainment starting at 2 p.m. will be local San Luis Obispo musician, entertainer, author, composer, and playwright Phil Edwards. Grandparents, grandkids, and the community at large are encouraged to spend time at The Manse on Marsh and celebrate the day with one another.
“We are looking forward to celebrating Grandparents Day with our residents and welcoming Phil Edwards to The Manse on Marsh,” said Life Enrichment Team Director Jackie Edwards, who just happens to be married to Phil. “He and I will be sharing stories and reading from one of his children’s books, Monkey’s Grandma Loves Cheese. We encourage everyone in the community to join us for this special event – bring your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren – we will even be serving cheese, cookies and milk to our guests.”
Activities and events such as the Grandparents Day celebration keep residents at The Manse on Marsh busy and involved throughout the year. Not only do the residents have opportunities to be active participants in various exercise classes, Bible studies, book clubs and more on a daily, weekly and monthly basis, they also venture out into the community on regular outings and consistently enjoy visits from special guests and entertainers.
Along with team member Savannah Garcia, Edwards helps to organize a continually evolving array of activities that keep The Manse on Marsh residents coming back for more. A highlight during the month of August was Cruise Week – a virtual adventure that took them to Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Vallarta, Jamaica and Rio de Janiero. Several family members joined in on the fun, including a Hula class presented by the Na Mele o ke Kai dancers, and accompanied the residents to the Captain’s Dinner as well.
Additional activities in August included a visit from Bill Garrett with Therapy Dogs, Inc. Much to the delight of The Manse on Marsh residents, Bill brought along his Golden Retrievers, Cooper and Bailey. Many residents also enjoyed a production of Beauty and the Beast at Spanos Theater while a tour of a local fire station gave residents a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to be a firefighter in San Luis Obispo County.
In addition to the Grandparents Day celebration, The Manse on Marsh residents and their guests are looking forward to an evening of dinner and dancing at the Veteran’s Hall with An Evening in Greece on Sept. 6. The fun continues throughout the month as the staff prepares to serve up entertainment and great food at Manse Staff Chili Cook-off, slated for Sept 25; music for the event will be music will be provided by the Blue Moonshine Band.
