New York Legislature, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and Saratoga Springs Mayor Proclaim August 24th as Saratoga Chip Day
Saratoga Springs, NY (PRWEB) August 24, 2014 -- The New York State Legislature, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the Mayor of Saratoga Springs declare that August 24th, 2014 is proclaimed to be Saratoga Chip Day in recognition of the 161st Anniversary of the America’s First Kettle Chip Sunday.
America’s favorite snack food was invented 161 years ago at Moon’s Lake House on Saratoga Lake on August 24th, 1853. Saratoga Chips helped launch a multi-billion dollar a year industry in the snack food business. Saratoga Chips were reintroduced to the market in 2009 and has achieved a triple-digit increase in sales with significant market share growth since Jim Schneider, former president of Beech Nut Nutrition Corp, and Joseph Boff, a local real estate investor, purchased the company.
Jim Schneider, Saratoga Chip CEO says, “today we celebrate our amazing history in Saratoga Springs. We are incredibly grateful to the community for all of their support and patronage. Having our elected officials proclaim today, August 24th, as Saratoga Chip Day is a momentous honor showing the strong bonds that build a thriving business climate. The future is very promising for Saratoga Chips as we take this local treat to national markets that crave premium snack products. We are excited to consistently deliver outstanding ingredients with quality that cannot be surpassed.”
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo states, “Saratoga Chip Day is a fitting way to celebrate the 161st anniversary of the creation of the potato chip and pay tribute to one of the great success stories in New York State and American history. For more than a century and a half, Saratoga Chips has been a true New York business, creating a product that has gained wide popularity while also providing jobs and economic investment in the local economy. All New Yorkers join in extending appreciation and congratulations to the Saratoga Chip team and your inspiring story that forever changed the landscape of the American food market."
Over the past year, a significant investment has been made in advertising, followed by securing a contract with NYRA for the 2014 Saratoga Race Course season. This puts Saratoga-based snacks in the hands of thousands of new customers along with national and international visitors who attend the track.
“Saratoga Chips are much more than a delicious, wholesome snack; they are a cherished Saratoga institution and as much a part of our community’s rich history as our action-packed horse racing season. By including a healthy pinch of Mountain Pure Himalayan pink salt, Saratoga Chips –America’s first and best kettle chips – have gotten even better, proving that the best never rest. The fantastic growth of Saratoga Chips as a company, a respected, high-quality, high-value brand, and as a natural snack, is a true Saratoga success story that our community can take great pride in recognizing and celebrating. The rest of America is quickly learning what Saratoga already knows so well – Saratoga Chips is a winner. I am proud to take part in Saratoga Chip Day and recognize such a terrific, fast-growing and innovative business such as Saratoga Chips,” said New York State Senator Kathleen A. Marchione (R,C-Halfmoon).
“Saratoga is truly the home of champions and what a fitting way to celebrate the 161st anniversary of the invention of the potato chip in Saratoga than at the world-famous Saratoga Race Course by designating today as Saratoga Chip Day in the State of New York. Congratulations to Saratoga Chips for its success as a local small business in Saratoga County and for leading the way as America’s first kettle chip,” said Assemblyman Jim Tedisco (R,C,I-Glenville).
Saratoga Springs Mayor Joanne Yepsen states, "Saratoga Chips is a valued part of Saratoga Springs' history. We are indeed fortunate in Saratoga Springs to have many vigorous new companies adding innovative contributions for today and for our future. The impressive growth of the company is a true reflection of innovative products and businesses that call Saratoga Springs home.
