Trade Monkey Selected as a Finalist in UN's Annual Project Inspire Contest
Ashland, Oregon (PRWEB) August 25, 2014 -- Trade Monkey (gotrademonkey.com), a company that connects customers to high-quality products made by artisans in the developing world, has been hand-picked as a finalist in Project Inspire, a social innovation competition run by the Singapore Committee for UN Women and MasterCard®.
Founded by a husband-and-wife duo in August 2013, Trade Monkey works towards the development of economically vital communities by promoting responsible consumer behavior among young consumers. Trade Monkey works directly with female artisans throughout the developing world to offer a wide variety of unique products to consumers online including trendy jewelry, embroidered handbags, and inspired art pieces. The company provides economic opportunities to women in Cambodia, Thailand and Uganda with plans to expand to additional regions in 2015.
“We’re humbled to be a finalist in Project Inspire. If selected as the grand-prize winner, we will apply the funds towards purchasing much-needed supplies for producers and will invest in financial literacy training for the community,” says Alana Hitchcock Weber, Co-founder and COO of Trade Monkey. “We’re committed to building economic opportunities that elevate the lives of women in the developing world through consumer purchasing behavior.”
Launched in 2011, Project Inspire is a joint initiative from the Singapore Committee for UN Women and MasterCard® and is dedicated to creating a better world for women and girls in Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. Each year, the organization selects ten women, ages 18-35, to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges for a chance to win a $25,000 grand prize.
