Andover Education Launches Achievement Gap College Readiness Courses
Westport, CT (PRWEB) August 26, 2014 -- Andover Education launched comprehensive Achievement Gap College Readiness Courses a few years ago. The courses are comprehensive preparation programs that combine online and offline work to prepare undeserved students for college. Today, Andover has announced that these courses will be offered nationally for free.
The Achievement Gap College Readiness Courses were created based on discussions with superintendents and teachers of some of the largest school districts in the country and were designed to be highly scalable, affordable, and effective. The core programs, a series of online instructional videos, practice sets and assessments, are entirely free. The programs also include printable student and teacher practice sets that may be used offline. The College Readiness Courses are designed to raise remedial ACT and SAT scores in the context of applying to and attending college and include college exploration, application, and financial aid lessons.
According to Andover’s CEO, Nathan Allen, the Achievement Gap College Readiness Courses “enable districts to provide district-wide access to great college readiness materials at little or no cost.” The programs are best delivered in a classroom by a teacher, but the teacher does not need to be a SAT, ACT or college readiness expert. Allen continues, “The programs are designed to minimize the need for schools to provide resources or address complicated logistics issues. You can just plug it in wherever you have students who need college readiness support.”
Andover’s programs are customized for the PSAT, SAT and ACT. Schools may select any combination to offer to their students. The program also includes paid services, such as printed practice tests that are scored just like the real tests, with score reports delivered online. Andover also offers professional development and district analysis reports. All paid services are optional.
Andover also offers Andover’s unique Success Counseling Center. For a small fee, Andover’s counselors will personally monitor and guide students through the college readiness course. “Success counseling isn’t operated by robots,” Allen says. “Real people get in touch with you to ensure you successfully complete the program. We detect students who are struggling, and we actually call them. It’s a level of personal attention and personal commitment to student success that’s unparalleled. If you’re having problems, we don’t wait for you to ask for help. We call you proactively and make sure you don’t fall behind.”
Andover’s free Achievement Gap College Readiness Courses are designed for underserved students who are historically unexposed to comprehensive SAT and ACT preparation. The program caters to English Language Learners, first-to-college students, and students scoring below a 500 on each section of the SAT or below 21 on the ACT. Each course is an online, blending-learning program designed to be plugged into the classroom or used individually by students.
The PSAT course is designed to be given over a few weeks and the SAT and ACT courses over a few months. All courses are very flexible. Schools can register now and start delivering the courses within a few days.

About Andover Education
Andover was launched in Westport, CT in 2003 to develop educational content and quickly became known for its metric-based solutions for districts. Andover developed its own technology once it became apparent that the technology to deliver solutions was limited and out-dated. While a technology company, Andover’s foundation is in teaching and learning. Andover operates an accredited school (grades 6-12) and employs a full complement of teaching staff. As a technology company, this enables Andover to develop ed-tech solutions that best address education challenges.
