American Dental Association Hosts First Dental Sleep Medicine Course
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) August 26, 2014 -- OSA University sponsored the American Dental Association (ADA) conference on August 8-9, in Chicago, IL. OSA-U’s presence at these meetings is to communicate the power of the dental team and to encourage team involvement. They strongly believe in a unified message throughout a dental sleep practice so that dental sleep team professionals can better educate and therefore, better treat their patients’ obstructive sleep apnea.
This continuing education meeting entitled “Dental Sleep Medicine for the General Dental Team” was the first time dental sleep medicine was presented by the ADA. Dr. Steve Carstenson of Bellevue, WA covered basics of sleep, oral devices, how to work with sleep physicians to market services, and medical insurance interaction. This falls in line with OSA University’s online education platform which teaches such practices and protocols. It was with great excitement that OSA University was present for ADA’s first dental sleep medicine meeting at the ADA headquarters.
For those offices currently providing oral devices, Dr. Carstenson presented more advanced education such as complications, calibration and follow-up testing, physician relations, and team development. He also covered more complex cases that practitioners sometimes encounter.
Dr. Steve Carstenson will also be speaking in San Antonio, TX, on October 9-14 at the ADA 2014 Annual Meeting. More information can be found about his “Snoring Kids, Sleepy Kids: Pediatric Apnea 2014” upcoming lecture at: http://eventscribe.com/2014/ada/aaSpeakerBios.asp?h=Speakers.
Dr. Steve Carstenson, Editor in Chief of “Dental Sleep Practice”, adds, “It is most exciting to know the American Dental Association offers education for even the newest services that interest member dentists. What an honor it was to be part of continuing education right there at our headquarters building! Every dentist has patients at risk for sleep disordered breathing and all dentists can impact community health - by providing courses like these the ADA fully supports every member. By hosting education in downtown Chicago, in a marvelous facility, our organization is really adding value to the membership.”
ADA’s Dental Sleep Medicine course will be offered again in the following year. Additional information on the upcoming conference and on other CE live events can be found on the ADA website at: http://www.ada.org/en/education-careers/continuing-education.
