SVCF Will Host Silicon Valley Gives Charitable Event for a Second Year
Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) August 26, 2014 -- Following a successful first-ever regional day of giving that benefited more than 600 nonprofit organizations last spring, Silicon Valley Community Foundation is excited to announce that it will again host Silicon Valley Gives in 2015.
On Tuesday, May 5, 2015, Silicon Valley Gives will raise money for local nonprofits through a single online donation platform, providing a simple way to connect donors to the charitable causes they care about most and encourage them to take action.
One of the pillars of SVCF’s mission is to strengthen the common good locally. This 24-hour online fundraising effort, hosted by SVCF with the help of sponsors, will offer thousands of nonprofits the chance to raise millions of dollars. During the inaugural Silicon Valley Gives event, held May 6, 2014, nearly 15,000 individual donors contributed just over $8 million to charities based in three counties.
“When we held the first SVGives, it was inspiring to see how generously the community responded,” said Emmett D. Carson, Ph.D., president and chief executive officer of Silicon Valley Community Foundation. “We’re committing ourselves to hosting SVGives in 2015 and 2016, confident that we can help even more nonprofit organizations raise funds to improve people’s lives in Santa Clara, San Mateo and San Benito counties.”
SVCF is proud to announce that Microsoft and NBC Bay Area are among the early sponsors of Silicon Valley Gives, both contributing leadership and technology to ensure the success of the fundraising effort.

In addition to its sponsorship, Microsoft will host the first of multiple informational sessions for nonprofits about how they may optimize this fundraising opportunity. During Silicon Valley Gives, SVCF will partner with funders to create matches and prizes for the participating nonprofit groups. These incentives encourage community members to give during what can be a challenging fundraising period for nonprofit organizations.
