justthoughtyoushouldknow.org, popular current events, political, and civic information media site, launches their new site today. The new site is better organized and has additional features aimed at making information easier to find, ingest, and share.

“We research, we sift, we distill into one-page, easy-to-read pages the information that we believe any reasonably well-informed American should know!” says Virginia Downie, retired college professor and founder of the site. “So, upon retirement with more flexible time to spend, I decided to tackle the problem head on by developing weekly content around these vital subjects.”

The information, which is in the form of a distributable flyer as well as a blog, has been quite popular and picked up on a regular basis by organizations such as Virginia Organizing and numerous political organizations around the states of Virginia, Maine, New York, and California.

“It’s hard for people to stay informed with so much competing information out there. That’s why we rely on Just Thought You Should Know and distribute to everyone we know every week,” says Dr. William Purkiss, retired Professor. “When I don't send them out, the emails just start coming in."

Virginia launched justthoughtyoushouldknow.org in 2010 in response to what she terms “an incurable itch” to cut through the confusion and misinformation in the media. “We are a good species,” she says, ”and we can solve our problems with a caring heart, an open mind, and reliable information.”

"What’s unique about JTYSK,” says Dr. Nancy Hemmert, Professor of Communication Studies at Santa Monica College, CA, “is they list every source they consult so readers can check the sources for themselves. They invite; they don’t insist.”

The content is free to distribute under Creative Commons.
