Bengtson Center Expands Body Contouring and Aesthetic Surgery Practice With New Plastic Surgeon
Grand Rapids, Mich. (PRWEB) September 02, 2014 -- The Bengtson Center for Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery, West Michigan’s leading plastic surgery and skin and laser treatment center, today announced Ryan Mitchell, MD, FRCSC will join the center to lead its growing body contouring practice.
Plastic surgery is often required following dramatic or rapid weight loss, frequently the result of dieting alone or a bariatric/weight loss surgical procedure. A wide variety of post-bariatric or body contouring surgical procedures such as tummy tuck and liposuction remove excess sagging skin that leaves many patients self-conscious. Post weight loss surgery helps to improve and the shape of the underlying support tissue of a person’s body. The result is a more natural appearance with smoother contours of the abdomen, arms, legs and buttocks area.
Dr. Mitchell is an up and coming leader in the research and study of Body Contouring and reconstructive surgery, recently completed a prestigious Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he specialized in procedures to treat the after-effects of post-bariatric surgery under the auspices of Dr. Peter Rubin. The majority of his patients have lost over one hundred pounds during the course of their surgery, and were left with a significant quantity of excess skin around their faces, necks, upper arms, breasts, abdomens, buttocks and thighs. However, there are many patients who have lost less weight through both surgical and medical means.
“Dramatic weight loss is a significant accomplishment and a life-changing experience for these patients, and Body Contouring completes the process that their weight loss initiated. These patients' lives are transformed! They get new jobs, get married and start new relationships - their lives are dramatically changed,” said Dr. Bradley Bengtson, founder and CEO of the Bengtson Center. “Dr. Mitchell’s passion, experience and surgical expertise with these procedures will be a significant asset to the patients of West Michigan, raise the standard of care for these patients, and I am energized and excited to bring him on board.”
Dr. Mitchell is a native of Canada, with dual citizenship, having received his post-grad medical degree in Plastic Surgery from the University of Manitoba, as well as his medical undergraduate and Bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Calgary. He chose to specialize in Body Contouring because he is passionate about helping people who had undergone a dramatic, life-changing experience, and wanted to be an integral part in helping these patients return to physical health and an active lifestyle.
“Patients who lose weight through medical means or following gastric bypass, sleeve or LAP-BAND surgery are more likely to keep off the weight and lead healthier lives following body contouring procedures,” said Dr. Mitchell. “Making this surgery as an integral part of a patient’s comprehensive weight loss program can lead to better, long-term results and quality of life. I am honored to bring my experience to the Bengtson Center and contribute my passion to this growing demand.”
With the addition of Dr. Mitchell, the Bengtson Center will be expanding its offerings for weight loss surgery patients who want excess skin removed, including tummy tuck, thigh lift, buttock lift (colloquially known as a butt lift), gynecomastia surgery (male breast reduction), arm lift (brachioplasty) and even face lift and neck lift procedures.
Dr. Mitchell is currently a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He has received numerous research and teaching awards for his work. Dr. Mitchell performs the full gamut of aesthetic Plastic Surgery while specializing in Body Contouring and post-weight loss procedures. He and his wife, Melissa, have recently relocated to Grand Rapids to join Dr. Bengtson.
