New Addictions Treatment Center Joins With Respected Advocate for Recovery in That of John Lucas
Houston,TX (PRWEB) August 29, 2014 -- Great Oaks Recovery Center (Great Oaks) today announced a partnership with John Lucas Enterprises. Great Oaks Recovery Center, located southwest of Houston is an addictions residential treatment center. Owned and operated by Summit Behavioral Healthcare, LLC and located on 59 acres of serene Texas land, the program treats adults suffering from addiction.
Lucas played in the NBA for 14 years from 1976-90. Lucas started his career as the first player taken in the NBA draft by the Houston Rockets. John was an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers most recently for the 2009-2010 season. John Lucas arguably could have been one of the best, if not the best point guard in the history of the NBA, but he found his playing career hampered by his dependencies on drugs and alcohol.
Through his own recovery, one day at a time, John has achieved 28 years of sobriety, Lucas has given himself, and others who have experienced similar disappointments and addictions, the chance of a lifetime - the opportunity to prove that someone with a serious drug and alcohol problem can overcome it and achieve greatness again. As John Lucas says, "What I thought was the worst possible deal in life turned out to be the best gift I've been given. My addiction carried me past my sports life. It gave me my best trophy. It gave me a chance to get my ABC of life: ‘A’ is for Acceptance, ‘B’ Believing in something greater than me, ‘C; Caring unconditionally about others.” John Lucas Enterprises is the brainchild of Coach John Lucas, a 36 year student, teacher, professional and advocate for the game of basketball. A former player and coach himself, Coach Lucas understands what it is to be "Elite". Furthermore, he understands what it takes to achieve that level of play, what it takes to maintain that level of play and what it takes to handle, live with and coach that level of play.”
Lucas continues, “The treatment plan, the 12 step model and the continuum of care were all things that sold me on Great Oaks.”
“Great Oaks shares my dedication and mission to help those with the disease of addiction.” After touring the program and meeting with the staff, I felt confident to put my name on this treatment program.” stated Lucas.
Dustin Whitesell, CEO of Great Oaks comments on the partnership, “Coach Lucas is a man of integrity as is our organization and after we met, I knew he had to be part of our team. Together we will strive to reach those who need treatment for addiction.”
