Jon teaches a riff from the chord progression of the second four bars of Giant Steps by John Coltrane. The chord voicings that Jon demonstrates are as follows: GM7 (G major seven), 5th fret of the 4th string with first finger and 7th fret of the 3rd, 2nd and first strings with 3rd finger. Next chord is Bb13 (B flat 13), 6th fret of the 4th string with first finger, 7th fret of the 3rd string with 2nd finger and 8th fret of the 2nd string with 3rd finger and 8th fret of the first string with 4th finger. Next chord is EbM7 (E flat Major seven), 5th fret of the 4th string with first finger, 7th fret of the 3rd string with 3rd finger and 6th fret of the first and 2nd strings with 2nd finger. Next chord is F#7 (F sharp seven), 4th fret of the 4th string with first finger, 7th fret of the 3rd string with 3rd finger, 5th fret of the 2nd string with 2nd finger and 6th fret of the first string with 4th finger. And finally resolving to a BM7 (B major seven), 4th fret of the 4th, 3rd and 2nd strings with first finger and 6th fret of the first string with 3rd finger. MacLennan follows this with a 2 5 progression consisting of Fm11 (F minor 11) for the 2 chord and Bb9 (B flat 9) and then resolving to an Eb/F9 (E flat over F nine).
