Watermark Learning Ahead of the Curve in Requirements Management Training
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) August 29, 2014 -- Watermark Learning, a leading global provider of Business Analysis, Project Management, Agile, Business Process Management, and Influencing Skills training announced today that its requirements management training equips business and project professionals to meet the increasing need for effective requirements management.
According to Watermark Learning Co-Principal Elizabeth Larson, it is now well-recognized that requirements are critical to the success of any major project. PMI’s 2014 Pulse of the Profession report notes: “For every dollar spent on projects and programs, 5.1 percent is wasted due to poor requirements management.” As a result, Larson indicated, a well-planned and managed requirements approach is essential to a successful project.
Requirements management skills have also received increasing emphasis since PMI launched its PMI-PBA certification earlier this year. The PMI-PBA exam content outline shows that nearly 40% of the PMI-PBA exam covers requirements management material. Furthermore, a new Requirements Management Standard will be published in 2015, another indicator of the growing importance of this skillset.
The new PMI-PBA exam emphasizes requirements management and is supported by PMI’s 2014 Pulse of the Profession Study, which revealed statistics on the growing necessity for requirements management to ensure project success. According to the study, 87% of organizations recognized the need for improvement in requirements management. Furthermore, it showed that 47% of unmet project goals can be attributed to poor requirements management, making it the second most common reason that projects fail. According to Larson, “Because the industry now recognizes how important it is to manage requirements, requirements management training is becoming more and more of a necessity.” She continued, “Watermark Learning is ahead of the curve in helping professionals master essential requirements management skills and use those skills effectively on the job.” Elizabeth and Richard Larson are the authors of A Practitioners Guide to Requirements Management. First published in 2009 and now on its second edition, the realistic guide offers a step-by-step approach, and explains how to manage requirements without creating a mountain of paperwork.
Watermark Learning also developed a hands-on training course, Planning and Managing Requirements. The workshop-based course guides students through important aspects of requirements management such as scope, planning, and how to develop an appropriately-sized requirements management plan.
