MIAMI (PRWEB) August 27, 2014
Danielle N. Garno, a Shareholder at the Miami office of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, recently completed the Fashion Law Institute’s fourth-annual “Fashion Law Bootcamp.” The six-day program provides attorneys and other industry professionals an opportunity to experience the newly defined field of fashion law outside of the standard law school curriculum. Participants receive certificates of completion for their attendance.
The Fashion Law Bootcamp, which took place August 4 – August 9 in San Francisco, focused on current business and legal issues involving the global fashion industry. Attendees included lawyers, fashion industry professionals, law students, and others in the U.S. and abroad interested in broadening their knowledge of the law and business of fashion. Categories of exploration included intellectual property, business and finance, international trade, government regulation, and consumer culture and civil rights. Key discussion topics included:
Protection of fashion designs
Garment district zoning
Employment issues from designers to models
Sustainability and green fashion
“My completion of the Fashion Law Bootcamp is part of my commitment to providing fashion industry clients at Greenberg Traurig with the high-quality legal counsel they require,” said Garno, who has experience providing legal counsel to many of the world’s leading brands and designers. “The program offered a great chance to focus on the specific legal issues affecting the dynamic fashion industry, and I look forward to utilizing this knowledge to continue expanding my law practice in this exciting field.”
The Fashion Law Institute is the world’s first center dedicated to law and the business of fashion, according to its website. The nonprofit organization is created with support from the Council of Fashion Designers of America and its president, Diane von Furstenberg. It provides training for fashion lawyers and future designers and legal services for students and professionals, and makes available information and assistance on issues facing the fashion industry. The Fashion Law Bootcamp is run by Professor Susan Scafidi, the institute’s Founder and Academic Director and an internationally known pioneer in fashion law.
At Greenberg Traurig, Garno focuses her law practice on issues faced by the fashion community, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, trademark infringement, anti-counterfeiting, employment, and general business litigation. Her practice also includes a focus on complex civil litigation with an emphasis on white-collar defense and fraud actions. Her white-collar practice includes defense of corporations against federal and state indictments, as well as internal investigations and negotiations with various federal and state agencies. Garno has extensive experience in cases involving the FCPA, False Claims Act, fraud, Ponzi schemes, securities violations, money laundering, conspiracy and racketeering.
