Chef Charles Wade Schwerd’s culinary creation, Arrowhead Grill, has been selected to receive Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence for 2014. This competitive honor has been awarded in recognition of the restaurant’s success in offering a wide variety of interesting wines that create complimentary pairings with the restaurant’s fine steak and seafood menu.
Chosen from thousands of applicants nationwide, Arrowhead Grill holds the distinct honor of being identified as among Arizona’s best, offering a well-crafted wine list including more than 100 selections of wine.
Since 2008, Chef Charles Wade Schwerd has been working to create a menu replete with complimentary wine and food pairings, from the plentiful wines in the restaurant’s private reserve.
Wine enthusiasts, and guests just embarking on their discovery of wine, are provided new opportunities to taste the finest wines from around the world, with suggested pairings, monthly wine tastings and special wine dinners throughout the year.

Recent wine dinners have included visits from Cakebread Cellar’s owner Dennis Cakebread, whose winery is known for its exquisite Napa Valley wines, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Dancing Bear Ranch, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, all of which were featured at the wine dinner.
Francis Ford Coppola Winery’s sommelier Vincent Velarde presented one of the first tastings of the newly-acquired Inglenook wine at Arrowhead Grill, along with the vintner’s featured wines. Each of Coppola’s wines were paired with one of Arrowhead Grill’s memorable menu items to create an unforgettable wine tasting experience for guests.
The next year will offer even more opportunities for guests to experience wine excellence at Arrowhead Grill. In celebration of winning the Wine Spectator’s “Award of Excellence,” Arrowhead Grill will offer new wine events throughout the 2014 and 2015.
