One of the award winning facilities located in Pendergrass, Georgia received Award of Distinction, the highest accolade offered, for the fifth consecutive year. The Pendergrass processing plant is located in Georgia near Wayne Farms’ Corporate office.

Other Awards of Distinction were presented to two hatcheries located in Elkin, North Carolina and Decatur, Alabama; a feed mill in Elkin, North Carolina; and another processing plant in Jack, Alabama.

Eight Wayne Farms facilities received Awards of Honor. These include the fresh processing plants located in Dobson, North Carolina, Dothan, Alabama, Decatur, Alabama and Union Springs, Alabama; two further processing plants located in Decatur, Alabama; and two hatcheries in Troy, Alabama and Danville, Arkansas.

Wayne Farms delivers unprecedented safety practices which result in safety awards year after year. In 2012 Wayne Farms was awarded with five safety awards, 2013 increased to 11 awards and now in 2014 coming in at 13 awards.

In addition to traditional safety practices, Wayne Farms has implemented a behavior based safety initiative called WorkSAFE, which focuses on helping employees identify unsafe behaviors and remain conscious of their environment and potentially dangerous situations.

“We are very proud of our safety teams at Wayne Farms,” says Reggie McLee, Director of Safety and Loss Prevention for Wayne Farms. “Year after year, our employees continue to find new ways to further strengthen our safety-centric culture. All awards received are a direct correlation to our hardworking team members and their passion for improving safety measures at Wayne Farms.”

Award consideration was based on injury statistics over three years and an evaluation of written applications by three judges: Gary Pohlmann of Marsh Risk Consulting, Doug Britton, program manager for Agricultural Technology Research at Georgia Tech Research Institute, and George Nassif of Aon Global Risk Consulting.

The Joint Industry Safety and Health Council are comprised of members from the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, National Chicken Council, and National Turkey Federation. Collectively, the three organizations represent companies that produce 95% of the nation’s poultry products and employ over 350,000 workers.
