Dr. Paul Kovatis is being recognized by NJ Top Docs as a passionate supporter of the U.S. military for his efforts to treat many wounded veterans. Dr. Kovatis is a member of the Wounded Warriors Foundation and several other military organizations. Dr. Kovatis’ late father, Pericles Peter Kovatis (USAF), was a Flying Tiger in WWII. Having five members of his immediate family buried with honors including The Purple Heart in Arlington National Cemetery, it’s no wonder Dr. Kovatis is so dedicated to supporting the U.S. military.
Also a member of an international group supporting the construction of the Carlos Beltran Baseball School in Puerto Rico, Dr. Kovatis is a big supporter of the game of baseball. Dr. Kovatis is the only physician from Hackensack UMC to throw out the ceremonial “First Pitch” at the April 20th, 2013 Mets Game of the Week! Having served a perfect 84 MPH strike, Dr. Kovatis was featured on national FOX and SNY TV!
Dr. Paul Kovatis treats all surgical and non-surgical disorders of the leg, ankle and foot. He also specializes in general Orthopedics and Traumatic Injuries to the entire Musculoskeletal System; excluding the Spine.
Dr. Paul Kovatis completed his orthopedic leg, ankle and foot fellowship training at the Hospital of Special Surgery in New York City. He is one of very few orthopedic surgeon (MD’s) who concentrate on this subspecialty.
Dr. Kovatis performed the first total ankle replacement at HackensackUMC in May of 2013 and continues to have the highest surgical volume and quality and safety results in this specific orthopedic subspecialty.
He currently serves at the Chairman of the Medical Board, overseeing the administrative policies and procedures of over 1500 physicians at HackensackUMC and also serves on the institution’s Board of Governors, Board of Trustees and is the Chairman of the Quality and Patient Safety Committee of the governing Board of the Medical Center. He also serves as an orthopedic consultant to the new Wellness Center affiliated with HackensackUMC and is the Co-Chair of the Division of Orthopedics Foot and Ankle and involved in the formation of the new Orthopedics Institute at Hackensack.
Dr. Kovatis’ publications and editorials have been published in local, national and international press and he has been selected as a “Top Surgeon” by his peers for seven years in a row.
