Kirklyn Smith, an office manager for EzCOI.com, is closing in on what may be a new world’s record by walking 5,000 miles in a single year without ever leaving his desk.At TrekDesk we are constantly amazed by the thousands of individual stories of TrekDesk treadmill desk users across the country, but some just seem to stand out more than the others.
Kirklyn has launched a website that details his daily 24 hour step count which tallies a range of 54,823 steps (presumably on an off day) to 69,356 steps. So far he has walked 3,409 miles in 2014.
Let’s put that in perspective for a moment.
According to the University of Tennessee the average American takes 5,000 steps a day (the Surgeon General recommends a minimum of 10,000 steps). Kirklyn takes up to 14x more steps in his busy days as an insurance executive than a majority of us and exceeds the Surgeon General’s daily minimums seven fold! That is impressive to say the least but add in the fact that he does it all without losing one second of time out of his demanding work days.
What’s his secret? A treadmill and an innovative design known as the TrekDesk Treadmill Desk. Designed to fit any existing treadmill TrekDesk treadmill desk is an affordable, full sized, height adjustable workstation that allows individuals the opportunity to gain the necessary amount of daily exercise to lose weight, maintain health, reduce stress, prevent disease, strengthen muscles, boost mood and productivity, without requiring additional time during the day or extra motivation.
You can keep track of his daily progress at http://www.workiwalk.com/Progress.aspx as he closes in on those last 1,591 miles toward the record.
“We stay in touch with a lot of our TrekDesk users through Facebook, Twitter and email and have been awed by many of the individual stories of health restoration and social conviction to spread the word about the health benefits of movement,” stated Steve Bordley of TrekDesk Treadmill Desk, “but Kirklyn always seems to set a new bar in regards to personal achievement. He has already completed the equivalent of a marathon walking at his desk in a single work day but this new goal simply astounded us.”
