The Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group (NEREG) Offers First Conference on Psychogenic Non-epileptic Seizures (PNES) on September 20, 2014 in New Jersey
Mahwah, NJ (PRWEB) September 01, 2014 -- Psychogenic Non-epileptic Seizures (PNES), also known as non-epileptic attack disorder (NEAD) is a psychological disorder that can have devastating effects on those who develop it. These seizures look very much like epileptic seizures however, they are not produced by electrical anomalies in the brain but rather by emotional triggers. It is estimated that the numbers of persons suffering PNES may be greater than those affected by multiple sclerosis.
Dr. Lorna Myers, Director of the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group’s Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures Diagnostic and Treatment Program and clinical psychologist, commented: “PNES is a serious psychological condition that is still not well understood by doctors or the public. This year we launched an ambitious educational program that aims to raise awareness about PNES and to bring the condition out of the shadows. This has included the publication of my book Psychogenic non-epileptic Seizures: A Guide available on Amazon, a monthly blog, and now this all-day conference on PNES.”
This educational program is meant for patients, loved ones and health professionals alike. The conference is free of charge. Specialists who work with PNES including epileptologists, neuropsychologists, social workers and clinical psychologists will be speaking on new advances in diagnosis and treatment of PNES.
The conference is taking place on September 20 from 8-4PM at the Sheraton Mahwah Hotel, 1 International Blvd Mahwah, NJ 07495 To register, email events(at)epilepsygroup(dot)com, or go to (choose PNES session): http://epilepsygroup.com/register_events.php?idseccion=6&idsubseccion=20&event_name=Annual Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group Conference&event_location=new jersey&event_date=2014-09-20
