At this point in time, there are three developed systems,” says Dana Keller, PhD, co-inventor of the Pulmonica. “Although the approaches substantively differ, the goals are much the same – improved health with the assistance and support of some type of harmonica.”
The three approaches to harmonicas in healthcare are as follows:
1. Hospital and most group-based harmonica programs – currently the most common. Harmonicas have been used in hospitals and group-based, mostly elderly, programs for almost a decade. These programs concentrate on playing songs in a group and often hold special recitals. The method requires attendees to learn to play single notes with, perhaps, a few chords.
