Taiwan Scientologists for a Healthy Drug-Free Summer
(PRWEB) August 29, 2014 -- Volunteers from the Church of Scientology of Kaohsiung worked to make this a safe and drug-free summer for youth throughout their city.
They kicked off the summer with a “drug-free day,” organizing simultaneous drug education lectures for 7,000 students in eighteen primary schools, middle schools and high schools. In each of the schools, the day began with a special morning assembly where students received copies of The Truth About Drugs booklets and pledged to live drug-free.
Then, out onto the streets with drug education activities week after week throughout the summer: information booths, conferences, street events—all aligned to getting factual information about drugs into the hands of youth. They distribute copies of The Truth About Drugs series of booklets, very popular among adolescents and teens because of the frank and honest way the booklets deal with the issue of drug abuse.
One city councilor thanked the team for the level of their commitment, saying “Your dedication in spreading the truth about drugs, your effort to prevent countless youth from the destruction of drugs and your purpose in making this world a better place without recompense have deeply touched me.”
Scientologists on five continents work in their communities throughout the year to empower others with the truth about drugs. The Church and its members are dedicated to eradicating drug abuse through education.
The Church of Scientology supports The Truth About Drugs initiative, one of the world’s largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention campaigns.
It has been conclusively proven that when young people are provided with the truth about drugs—factual information on what drugs are and what they do—usage rates drop commensurately.
The Church of Scientology has published a brochure, Scientology: How We Help—The Truth About Drugs, Creating a Drug-Free World, to meet requests for more information about the drug education and prevention initiative it supports. To learn more or read the brochure, visit the Scientology website.
Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard wrote, “The planet has hit a barrier which prevents any widespread social progress—drugs and other biochemical substances. These can put people into a condition which not only prohibits and destroys physical health but which can prevent any stable advancement in mental or spiritual well-being.”
