Gary Mendell, Founder of the Addiction Nonprofit, Shatterproof, is Keynote Speaker at Cody’s Fresh Start Charity Event in Denver, CO
Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) August 31, 2014 -- Cody’s Fresh Start Charity Golf Tournament & Silent Auction Dinner, being held at Lone Tree Golf Club, is the first event for Cody’s Fresh Start Charity Works. In addition to Gary Mendell of Shatterproof, Chad Lentscher, the Director of Program Operations at Origins Recovery Center located in South Padre Island, TX is set to speak as well. Origins Recovery Center has ties to the Dr. Phil show, with its founder, Ben Levenson, appearing on the show frequently. Dinner tickets can be purchased separately for $20 for those who don't golf.
Cody’s Fresh Start Charity Works, Inc. was founded by Mary Cucarola after her son, Cody, died from a drug overdose on September 25, 2013. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity located in Denver, Colorado, and is staffed entirely by volunteers. Its purpose is to educate others about the disease of addiction, including family members who are directly affected by the disease, to offer funds for quality treatment to addicts who can’t afford it, and to support scientific addiction research through national organizations like Shatterproof. Visit http://www.shatterproof.org for Mary’s story under the section “My Last Photo”.
“My son, who was an avid golfer, struggled with addiction for almost ten years, and completed treatment five different times, each time coming out with the hope of staying clean and sober. He didn’t want to be addicted, and he called it his beast and it won out on September 25, 2013. Opening up about Cody’s struggle with addiction is helping me to heal from the loss of my son, and at the same time is giving a voice to a disease that is so misunderstood” said Mary Cucarola, Cody’s mother.
This is only one mother’s story, but so many others have the same story; children are dying from this epidemic of opiate addiction. Cody’s Fresh Start Charity Works is committed to conveying a message of compassion and hope to those affected by addiction. It is advocating for effective treatment for addicts and providing positive support in their recovery, and trying to remove the shame associated with this disease. Addiction is not a moral failure; it is a disease.
There are plans in the works for more events in 2015 to continue to raise funds to further its mission. Visit http://www.codysfreshstart.org for more details about the charity golf tournament and silent auction dinner or contact Mary Cucarola at mary(at)codysfreshstart(dot)org.
