Ohio Judge Pushes for Addiction Recovery Tool
USA (PRWEB) August 29, 2014 -- As reported by WKMS.com in the article Judge Uses Drug to Aid Addicts' Recovery, an Ohio municipal court drug has come up with a new strategy to try and curb drug addiction. Fred Moses, who serves as the presiding judge in a Southeastern Ohio municipal court presented an idea to Kentucky law makers to offer addicts a medicated treatment option that can literally prevent them from getting high. The treatment option utilizes the drug known as Vivitrol, which blocks receptors in the brain that would normally react to opiates and other drugs. Recovering addicts who use Vivitrol and then use an illegal drug would not be able to feel the effect they normally would. Moses' drug court is one of the few drug courts in the country to use Vivitrol in addiction recovery cases.
Heroin and opiate addicts in Moses' courtroom have been benefiting from this treatment option for the last two years. Moses does not believe that this treatment option is the final solution to addiction problems but he does believe that it helps in most cases. He views it as a simple tool in the recovery process. So far, Moses has given this option to 5 people, 4 of whom have graduated from drug court and three of whom have jobs. No one in the group has returned in front of him for drug-related charges. Moses hopes that he can expand his program by presenting to it major Legislative lawmakers and make it a more accessible option in the future.
