MOSI Announces Children 5 and under Now Receive Complimentary Admission
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) August 30, 2014 -- As a part of its on-going effort to become more accessible to the Tampa Bay community, MOSI has announced that, effective immediately, all children 5 and under will now receive complimentary admission to the Museum of Science & Industry.
Children 5 and under have a wide variety of activities to enjoy while at MOSI. With 25,000 square feet of exhibit space, Kids In Charge! is open to the general public during regular museum operating hours and is divided into separate areas: ACTIVATE!, where kids can experiment with weighted wheels, gravity, and momentum; INVESTIGATE!, interactive experiments where children can test their skills of observation and analysis; KIDS CREATE!, an area where guests apply creativity and teamwork to design and build various objects. Additionally, MOSI offers a wide variety of preschool programs and activities to keep younger children engaged.
As the only institution solely dedicated to science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) education, MOSI continues to make accessibility a priority. MOSI is a non-profit, community-based institution and educational resource that is dedicated to advancing public interest, knowledge, and understanding of STEAM. MOSI's core ideology is to make a difference in people's lives by making science real for people of all ages and backgrounds.
With MOSI now offering complimentary admission to all children 5 and under, in addition to its participation in the Blue Star Museums initiative, its recent announcement of complimentary memberships for Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas county school employees, and providing 400 Summer Science Camp scholarships, MOSI now gives approximately $4 million back to the community annually in complimentary tickets, memberships, scholarships, outreach and educator trainings.
Additionally, MOSI hosts several complimentary community-wide events each year including: the City of Tampa and Hillsborough County Hurricane EXPO; Hillsborough County Schools Elementary Science Olympics and Brain Bowl; free educator events for teachers, administrators and their families; a free home school educators open house; and complimentary quarterly SkyWatches, an event where the community can come and use MOSI telescopes and talk to our educators about the wonders of space. In addition to holding several annual discounted admission days, including five $5 day events just last year, MOSI also hosts more than 1,200 middle school students of migrant families each year through its Meet the Scientist Day, as part of the National Hispanic Scientist of the Year event.
