Albany, NY (PRWEB) September 03, 2014

Inc. magazine recently released its annual 5000 List of the Fastest Growing Private Companies in the United States, and once again Ballston Lake-based SmartWatt Energy was near the top. This is the third year SmartWatt earned a spot on the most comprehensive list of the most important segment of the economy—America’s independent entrepreneurs. With the average energy company on the list achieving a three-year growth of 168%, this year featured the most competitive crop in the list’s history. SmartWatt Energy joins Go Pro, Tough Mudder, Otterbox and GoDaddy.com, among other prominent brands featured this year.

Over the past three years, SmartWatt has grown 203%, added 162 jobs, and opened a dozen new offices across the country.

The company, which provides customized services for utilities, commercial, industrial and institutional clients and also develops proprietary software that streamlines internal workflow processes and provides comprehensive program reporting, posted $48.8 million in revenue last year. This impressive growth has continued despite a down economy for much of the company’s short history, and without a single merger or acquisition.

“The energy-efficiency industry provides some unique challenges, but there's more opportunity in the market today than ever before," explains SmartWatt President and Founder, Chris Covell.

Amsterdam, NY–native Covell founded SmartWatt in 2002, at age 23 and with just three employees, in the region’s Tech Valley. The company has been a perennial member of local “fastest growing” lists and Covell was personally named one of the Albany Business Review’s “40 Under 40.” This year, SmartWatt opened two new offices in Pittsburgh, PA and Cincinnati, OH. The company also launched two utility programs and formed the Integrated Solutions Group, specializing in turnkey, integrated, design-build energy-efficiency projects.

The company plans to expand in 2015 by continuing to grow their integrated solutions and national accounts groups, while adding additional utility programs and functionality within AMP®.
