Andy Russell and Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank Gear Up for the Annual Kick Hunger Challenge
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) September 04, 2014 -- Former Steeler Andy Russell is encouraging Steeler fans near and far to participate in the Kick Hunger Challenge, an annual online fundraiser event that raises money through NFL teams. The fundraiser began September 1st and culminates at the end of the football season. All proceeds donated through the Pittsburgh NFL team will go directly to Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
The Kick Hunger Challenge is a national online fundraising initiative that encourages people to make donations through their favorite NFL team. The Kick Hunger Challenge coincides with the annual Taste of the NFL Super Bowl event, which takes place the night before the Super Bowl. The event matches an acclaimed chef and a former professional football player from each of the 32 NFL cities to raise money for their hometown’s food bank. Andy Russell has been involved in the event for more than fifteen years along with Chef Anthony Zallo of the Bigelow Grille. The Kick Hunger Challenge and Taste of the NFL have raised more than $11 million.
Andy Russell is urging fans across ‘Steeler Nation’ to visit the Kick Hunger Challenge website to make a donation of at least $10. All NFL teams are represented in the challenge, creating a competition of sorts to see which team can raise the most money. The money raised goes directly to the food bank in that team’s home city.
“Controlling the hunger problem in our country is extremely important and actually attainable,” said Andy Russell. “Just $1 provides five meals for a child and the beauty of donating through the Kick Hunger Challenge is that you are donating to a child right where you live.”
