About Pulmonary Hypertension
Simply defined, pulmonary hypertension, or PH, is high blood pressure in the lungs. People with PH experience shortness of breath, dizziness, loss of energy and other common symptoms. Diagnosis of PH often takes years, during which patients are often misdiagnosed. This is alarming considering half of the patients who do not receive the correct treatment survive only 2.8 years. By the time they are finally diagnosed, a majority of patients have reached the advanced stages of the disease. It is estimated that there are approximately 30,000 diagnosed PH patients in the United States, but it is believed that as many as 100,000 people are living with undiagnosed PH.
