Dorothy's Derby Chronicles Tween Roller Derby Book Series Launch Kickstarter Campaign to Roll Out More Books, More Fun
Denver, CO (PRWEB) September 04, 2014 -- Dorothy’s Derby Chronicles co-authors Meghan Dougherty and Alece Birnbach have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund their dream of writing a tween roller derby book series. Kickstarter fundraising money will assist in promoting the installment in the series, Rise of the Undead Redhead, finishing the second book, Woe of Jade Doe, and getting the third book underway.
Inspired by Dougherty’s love of roller derby and Birnbach’s powerful illustrations, the series explores the adventure, diversity, excitement and competition around the sport while sharing the strength and body confidence it brings to girls and women of all ages. Simply put - roller derby is for anyone of almost any age.
“As long as you’re fierce and have the drive to get better on your skates, you can play roller derby at a competitive level,” said co-author Meghan Dougherty. “The community is a sisterhood; we celebrate each other’s quirks and cheer on everyone equally. We’d love to do 10 books and more.”
To help make their dream a reality, Dougherty and Birnbach are turning to Kickstarter to raise $10,000 for marketing support for the first two books, to complete book 2, Woe of Jade Doe, and get the third book in the series, Booty Vicious Strikes Back, underway. Money raised will help fund the co-writer, assistant illustrator, web designer and promotional material. Stretch goals have also been put in place to assist in long-term plans of creating a Dorothy’s Derby Chronicles fashion app, comic book and animated short film to tell the story visually on their website.

About the Creative Team
Meghan Dougherty (Rocky Mountain Rollergirls' Undertaker's Daughter) is a roller derby-playing wife and mom and owner of a small PR agency. Since 2007, Dougherty has been entertained and inspired by her roller derby sisters who are some of the smartest, most independent and funniest women she knows. Alece Birnbach has been drawing girls her whole life. From her fine art to her commercial illustrations--found on products across the country--Alece has been inspired by the diversity and complexity of the feminine form and spirit. Friends for more than 20 years, Dougherty and Birnbach share a free spirit and entrepreneurial quest for adventure. Together they hatched a genius plan to combine Birnbach’s gift of capturing the essence of sassy girl power with Dougherty’s roller derby story and adventures, to create a book series for girls. All to give tween girls a taste of the fun, fierceness, friendship, empowerment, and positive body image that the sport of roller derby brings to women from six to 60. Karen Windness co-wrote and provided creative input to Books 1 and 2.
