Cross-platform campaign celebrates the collaborative research and innovations in cancer care, and highlights the further efforts needed on the path to finding a cure

Mediaplanet today announces the distribution of the latest edition of “The Fight Against Cancer,” a cross-platform campaign which showcases innovations in cancer research and demands further attention around the topic. The industry has experienced a collaborative surge in research, leading to the most promising advancements in treatment and technology within the last century. Despite the vast strides being made, further research and funding is needed in order to ultimately find a cure. This campaign serves to inspire readers to take a proactive approach to their health and to funding efforts to drive research.

“Today, nearly 14 million Americans are cancer survivors as new therapies are allowing people with cancer to live longer and with a better quality of life,” explains Peter P. Yu, M.D. FASCO, President, American Society of Clinical Oncology in the campaign’s foreword piece. He goes on to say, “New cancer cases are expected to double by 2020 as the population ages. We must achieve more, faster, through greater investment in cancer clinical trials.”

The campaign features an exclusive interview with award-winning actor and advocate Patrick Dempsey, who graces the cover of the print component. In his interview, he opens up about his own family’s battle with cancer, advocates for involvement in community cancer initiatives, and encourages readers never to take time with family for granted. He stresses, “Life is short no matter how old you are. Live life to the fullest, spending time with family is very important.”

The print component of “The Fight Against Cancer” is distributed within this weekend’s edition of USA Today in New York, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Dallas, Philadelphia, and Seattle, with a circulation of approximately 450,000 copies and an estimated readership of 1.3 million. The digital component is distributed nationally through a vast social media strategy and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets.
