We want our scholarship winners to end up with an actual, working business.

The LearnU.org scholarship is open every year from March 1st to December 31st, and any college student interested in starting a business is welcome to apply. The monetary reward is $1,000. Winners also receive seven hours of consulting from experienced entrepreneurs. According to Perrin Carrell, LearnU.org president, the goal is to teach a promising young entrepreneur how to turn seed money into recurring revenue. The application page can be found http://www.learnu.org/learnu-stukent-scholarship-for-young-entrepreneurs/.
“When we created this scholarship, we asked ourselves, ‘Should we give students a fish, or should we teach them to fish?’” Carrell said. “In the end, we decided it was much more valuable to teach them to fish. We want our scholarship winners end up with an actual, working business—even if it’s small.”
LearnU.org is an online education resource that strives to provide the best possible information about careers and degree paths for students who may not be sure what to pursue. “There’s just so much misinformation out there,” says Perrin Carrell, president. “We want to show students in as much detail as possible what they’re in for when they choose a given career or degree program.”
Carrell continued, “We’re even more invested in students following their own ideas, which is why we created this scholarship. No matter what you do, you can turn it into a business. It’s what my whole team has done, and we want to help other young folks do the same.”
The LearnU & Stukent Scholarship for Young Entrepreneurs takes a step beyond the traditional scholarship formula, offering consulting in addition to a monetary award. This year’s deadline is December 31st.
