Industry Leaders Join Forces to Celebrate Game-Based Learning
Madison, WI (PRWEB) September 08, 2014 -- Commencing Operation Play! The mission: to unite educators and learning game developers by celebrating game-based learning in the classroom. Educators’ interest in game-based learning is at an all-time high, and research shows that these games help students succeed. Filament Games, award-winning developer of digital teaching games, is hosting the weeklong initiative from Sept. 15-19, 2014.
Filament Games is partnering with leaders across the education industry to promote the event, including BrainPOP, GlassLab Games, MIT's Education Arcade, Institute of Play, iCivics, the Joan Ganz Cooney Center and GamesandLearning.org, WorkingExamples.org, the Gaming in Ed Conference of LearningRevolution.com and edWeb.net. Together the partners will compile resources for educators on implementing and supporting game-based learning in the classroom.
The initiative will kick off on Sept. 15 with the grand opening of the Operation Play Resource Center. Educators interested in game-based learning can visit the page for inspiration to implement game-based learning in their own classrooms by exploring research, articles, case studies, video series, and of course, readily available games and curriculum.
“Game-based learning is an effective strategy that expands a teacher's toolkit, and allows students to learn in a way that other teaching resources may not be able to provide,” said Lee Wilson, CEO of Filament Games. “The goal behind Operation Play is to increase awareness about the benefits of game-based learning nationwide and encourage educators to use games in their classrooms.”
Additional Operation Play activities include podcasts featuring educators’ experiences with implementing games in their own classrooms, free sessions available for educators, researchers and game developers at the Gaming in Ed conference, pre-recorded webinars, giveaways via Filament Games’ social media channels and a special Education Talk Radio interview with Wilson.
