Live Green Connecticut! Kicks Off 5th Annual State-Wide Healthy Living and Family Festival
Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) September 08, 2014 -- Daphne Dixon and Scot Weicker, co-founders of Live Green Connecticut! have announced the dates for the 5th annual festival will be Saturday, September 13th, from 10am - 4pm, and Sunday, September 14th from 11am - 4pm at Taylor Farm Park located at 45 Calf Pasture Beach Road in Norwalk, Connecticut. Admission is Free!
New this year is Bloomfield Bicycle and Repair Shop’s electric bike test drives. There will also be an Electric Bike Give-Away. One winner will receive an Izip e3Path ebike from Currie Technologies with a 250-watt motor in the rear wheel. The ebike can be ridden three ways; as a regular bike with seven speeds, with pedal assist as you pedal and a "twist and go" throttle that will allow you to either pedal or not pedal and still move forward with a top speed of up to 20mph. A greener way to travel, it has a travel distance of up to 25 miles per charge and up to 2000 charges with the lithium ion battery.
An exciting feature this year is the Gustave Whitehead replica plane. On March 8, 2013, the world's foremost authority on aviation history, "Jane's All the World's Aircraft", formally recognized Gustave Whitehead's claim as “First in Flight.”
The replica plane has a 36’ wing span and will be on display all weekend. Dixon and Weicker stated, “We are thrilled to have the historic replica on display. It’s an amazing part of history and a proud moment for Connecticut. We are truly excited about our 150+ exhibits, children’s activities, delicious local and organic food including lobster rolls, great music featuring 11 bands and so much more. Live Green Connecticut! has become a fall tradition and a place for friends and families to create happy memories that last a lifetime. There is truly something for everyone to enjoy.”
There will be two new featured sections at this year’s festival. The Natural Awakenings’ Center for Total Life Care tent, part of the Live Healthy CT! area, will feature holistic heath practitioners who will provide alternative health and wellness information and resources. Also new is the Live Healthy Pet area, which will provide services, products and plenty of samples.
The Home Improvement section and The Cool Kids’ Zone will both be returning this year as major attractions, as well as a Sawmilling exhibit and an expanded shopping area. The Cool Kids’ Zone will feature pony rides and face painting as well as a petting zoo, bounce house, prize wheel, arts & crafts and interactive environmental exhibits from SoundWaters and Audubon Greenwich.
The transportation exhibit will be the best yet, featuring the latest in eco-friendly transportation including the ALL ELECTRIC Mercedes B-Class, Smart Car, Audi, Tesla, Nissan, Toyota, Frito-Lay’s natural gas-powered truck and more!
Live Green Connecticut! will continue to educate residents from across the state about the many ways to create and support green living. The Town Green exhibit, located in the center of the festival is a place where community members and leaders can join to learn about projects that create environmental protection and economic payback for municipalities. There will also be a variety of non-profits in the Resilient Communities Tent located at the front entrance of the festival.
There will be a full musical line-up all day, both days featuring several local artists and bands. A variety of delicious food will be available including everything from hamburgers made with pasture-fed beef, local and organic faire to handmade organic ice cream. With the support of Sustainable America, Live Green Connecticut! will compost all food waste and once again be a zero food waste event.
Opening Ceremonies will begin at 10:15am with Norwalk’s Mayor Harry Rilling and State Senator Bob Duff. This will include information about Live Green Connecticut!’s year round initiative and the Live Green CT! Energy Challenge, which educates homeowners about how to save money and energy.
Live Green Connecticut! is the largest event of its kind in the state. It is considered a major success in the green community, providing environmental education in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere. It features non-profit organizations, small businesses, grassroots efforts, government agencies, green businesses and corporations, local and organic food, renewable energy, green technology, organic gardening, environmentalism, eco-transportation, children’s activities, live music, and fun for the whole family!
Dixon and Weicker, continue: “We are very excited to have so many activities this year, as well as emerging green technology exhibits. The festival continues to grow and grow and this year is no exception – it will be biggest, best, and greenest yet!”
