FORA.tv will present a free live stream of an Intelligence Squared U.S. debate that considers whether or not the Common Core improves the quality of education for students. Arguing in favor of the motion are Carmel Martin and Michael Petrilli, against are Carol Burris and Frederick Hess.

WHAT: FORA.tv, the leading online destination for video programs from the world’s best conferences and events, will broadcast the Intelligence Squared U.S. (IQ2US) Oxford-style debate, “Embrace the Common Core.”

In K-12 education, there is nothing more controversial than the Common Core State Standards, national academic standards in English and math. Adopted by more than 40 states, they were developed, in part, to address concerns that American students were falling behind their foreign counterparts and graduating high school without the necessary skills for college and the workforce. But is this the reform we've been looking for? Has the federal government overreached and saddled our schools with standards that have been flawed from the start? Or will the Common Core raise the bar and improve the quality of our children's education?

WHEN: Tuesday, September 9th at 6:45 pm EDT

WHERE: The debate will be streamed live at intelligencesquaredus.fora.tv. The debate will be interactive with a Twitter feed following the conversation around the event. Following the live event, FORA.tv will offer the debate as a free on-demand program, and the full video and highlights will be available to share and embed.
