Newly Opened Springs at Monarch Landing a Revolution in Senior Care
Naperville, IL (PRWEB) September 09, 2014 -- Maggie Trucano loves giving tours of The Springs at Monarch Landing in Naperville. As community relations manager of the brand new continuing care connected to Monarch Landing’s independent living community, Trucano tells everyone there is nothing like The Springs anywhere for many miles. “If they come, they will stay,” she said of visitors to the community that provides memory support assisted living, which opened in July, and skilled nursing (the health center), slated to open this Fall . “I’m so excited about The Springs; I would move in myself in a second!”
A registered nurse for 20 years, Trucano applied to The Springs on the advice of administrator Jennifer Roach, with whom she previously worked at another retirement community. Also joining her at The Springs from her previous job are director of nursing Venus Perez and clinical supervisor, Kelly Sheehan. “We’re getting the band back together,” quipped Trucano of her fellow employees, all of whom are thrilled to have landed at the ground-breaking Springs.
The community’s ratio of 1:4 staff-to-residents is “incredible,” according to Trucano. All staff are cross trained and engaged in the care of all residents, ensuring that residents, in turn, are equally engaged in life at The Springs. In addition to an excellent staff-to-resident ratio is The Springs’ overarching model of resident-centered care and a household philosophy that is immediately apparent to anyone who steps inside its doors.
Especially enthusiastic are those who have participated in The Springs’ respite program, which allows caregivers a restorative rest while their loved ones stay in a fully furnished, private suite, with access to all Monarch Landing activities and programs. “Everyone perks up when they’re here,” said Trucano of respite residents, who can stay a minimum of three days and a maximum of 60. “One man said he couldn’t believe how different The Springs is. We’ve already had one conversion to permanent residency, and I anticipate many more!”
With room for 28 residents in assisted living and 96 in skilled nursing, The Springs offers private suites with spacious bedrooms and baths that open onto a cozy common living area and full kitchen, with all the touches and conveniences of home. The feeling of home at The Springs goes far beyond physical design. “So many places require residents to follow what they do, not the other way around,” said Trucano. “Our residents are adults who can decide for themselves how to live their lives. They can eat what they want, when they want; if they’re a night owl, they can stay up late and not be told they have to be in bed by ten. Everyone knows each other, their quirks, likes and dislikes.”
Another vital element of The Springs’ household model is that spouses with differing care needs can still live together. Whether united by the interconnecting Monarch Landing, or together in the same quarters at The Springs, couples—and all residents—have secure access back and forth within the entire Monarch Landing campus. “This model of living is entirely unique,” said Trucano. “All senior communities should be this way. The Springs did it right from the get-go.”
