Innovations in Dermatological Sciences 2014
New Brunswick, New Jersey (PRWEB) September 11, 2014 -- Rutgers University’s Center for Dermal Research will host its annual Innovations in Dermatological Sciences conference Oct. 8 in New Brunswick. The meeting will focus on how the university, industry and government sectors can collaborate to translate cutting-edge dermatological research into clinical use.
This conference is unique in bringing together experts who have had experience with cross-sector collaboration, to share their successes, best-practices, and lessons learned. Among the speakers scheduled will be Alice Gottlieb, M.D., chair of the Department of Dermatology at Tufts Medical Center, who contributed to the development of Remicade, a psoriasis treatment that is one of the world’s best-selling drugs.
Charles Biebylski, Ph.D., of the National Institute of Health’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) will speak about the NCAT’s cooperative research and technology development experiences with industry. Also scheduled to present are experts from Allergan, Galderma, Glaxo Smith Kline and other companies, plus scientists with Rutgers, U-C Santa Barbara and the University of Maryland.
William Ju, M.D., president of Advancing Innovation in Dermatology Inc., a non-profit organization that participated in the conference planning, said: “We very much look forward to this year’s meeting. The conference will bring together people and organizations who by partnering can significantly catalyze product innovation in dermatology.”
The conference’s organizer is Bozena B. Michniak-Kohn, Ph.D, professor of pharmaceutics in Rutgers’ Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy and director of the Center for Dermal Research.
“This conference provides unique perspectives regarding the translation of basic dermatological research to successful products in the clinic,” Michniak-Kohn said. “We anticipate that both industry researchers and university scientists will be interested in this meeting, which is particularly attractive in this region given the prominence of the pharmaceutical industry.”
This conference will provide an opportunity for researchers from universities, industry and government to exhibit their works-in-progress and obtain feedback from their peers in an informal setting. The exhibits give attendees a forum where they can interactively learn about cutting-edge research projects, including information that may not yet have been published.
