I hope that my book shows children and adults the importance of interacting face-to-face, listening to stories, and reflecting on their own lives.

Within her new book, It's a Scamp's Life! Illustrated by Sarah Derby Section, Sketches by Charles Kezar, ($14.99, paperback, 9781628393712; $7.99, e-book, 9781628393729) Wanda Kezar accomplishes her two-fold mission of motivating young readers to be curious; and preserving family history by documenting the adventurous, and often humorous, childhood antics of her father-in-law. This book follows a curious rascal growing up in the ‘30s and ‘40s, daily life in the aftermath of the Great Depression, and tragic memories of World War II. The colorful stories are recounted with such detail and clarity that readers will immediately be transported to another place and time.
“Reading a book based on a true story is like traveling back to a time that no longer exists for us,” states the author. “In our world of iPods, iPads, texting, and ‘tweeting,’ we have plugged in and tuned out. I hope that my book shows children and adults the importance of interacting face-to-face, listening to stories, and reflecting on their own lives.”
Wanda Kezar is, first and foremost, a teacher and a learner for she believes you cannot be one without the other. Reading and writing flow naturally from curiosity, and she was inspired by her first grade teacher to be forever curious. Wanda grew up in Maine, has a Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Maine at Farmington, and a Master’s degree from the University of New England. She taught for eleven years in private and public schools in Maine, and currently homeschools her two children.
